Profile of the Guest Speaker: Dr. Masakata OGAWA (小川正贤) is now Professor of Science and Technology Education and Dean of Graduate School of Mathematics and Science Education at Tokyo University of Science, Japan. He is also Professor Emeritus of Kobe University, Japan. One of the co-founders and the first president of the East Asian Association for Science Education (EASE), Prof. Ogawa was also President of Japan Society for Science Education (from August, 2004- July 2008). He was a Member of the Committee on Human Resources in Council for Science and Technology in Japan (Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology) (2005- 2013). His research interests include Cultural Studies in Science Education; Public Understanding of Science (Science Literacy); Science and Technology Education Policy; Scientific and Technological Human Resource Development in Higher Education. Serving as Editor-in-Chief of Journal of Science and Technology Studies and the editorial board member of several international science education journals, he has so far published some book chapters and many papers in international as well as national science education journals, including International Journal of Science Education, Science Education, Journal of Research in Science Teaching, Studies in Science Education, Cultural Studies in Science Education, Journal of Korean Association for Research in Science Education, and Journal of Science Education in Japan. Because of excellence in research, Prof. Ogawa has earned Distinguished Contributions Through Research’ Award (Japan Society for Science Education); EASE Distinguished Research Award (East Asian Association for Science Education); and The JSSE Award (Otsuka Award: Extraordinary Contribution Award) (Japan Society for Science Education).
