主讲人简介: Prof. Alan R. Esker received his B.S. (1991) and Ph.D. (1996) degrees in chemistry from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Since 1999, he has risen through the ranks at Virginia Tech to become a Professor. His research group has published in the areas of polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane nanofillers, dewetting, phase separation and crystallization in polymeric thin films, and more recently on enzymatic processes with polysaccharide and lignin films.
报告简介: Plant cell walls represent a natural composite with physical properties that are not easily replicated in synthetic systems. However, the interactions between cellulose, hemicelluloses and lignin are not well-defined. In this talk, Prof. Alan R. Esker will show you how to use a quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation monitoring (QCM-D) to explore interactions between plant cell wall polymers, as well as estimation of water contents of adsorbed films and enzymatic transformations of these polymers.
