摘  要:  Sum-product phenomenon play a fundamental role in many arithmetic combinatorial problems. It was first demonstrated in a se  minal paper of Paul Erdös and Endre Szemerédi, and found its way into many arithmetic problems only in recent years. I will give a survey on sum-product phenomenon in different settings, and demonstrate its power through a remarkable estimate for extremely short exponential sums due to Jean Bourgain and his coauthors. Some related problems in arithmetic combinatorics reflecting my recent thoughts will also be introduced.
