摘  要:

In the initial part of the talk we shall review schemes enabling to generate an artificial magnetic field for ultra cold atoms using several light beams. We discuss possibilities to create Abelian and non-Abelian gauge potentials for the atoms both in the usual traps and also in the optical lattices. Subsequently we shall talk about simulating the spin-orbit coupling of the Rashba-Dresselhaus type for ultra cold atoms using several laser beams or a sequence of properly chosen magnetic pulses. Finally we shall discuss manifestations of the spin-orbit coupling for ultracold atoms.

个人简介

Prof. G. Juzeliūnas completed a Ph.D. in 1986 in theoretical condensed matter physics at Vilnius University. In 1992-1994 he held a two-year postdoctoral appointment at the University of East Anglia, England. Then he received a Humboldt Research Fellow at the University of Ulm, Germany (1997–1998), and a Fulbright Scholar at the University of Oregon in the US (2000–2001). His current research focuses on the ultracold atomic gases, slow light, metamaterials, and graphene. He has published many papers in PRL, PRA, and  recently he published a review article on the light-induced gauge potential for ultracold atoms  Review of Modern Physics at the end of 2011, which has already received 196 citations. In 2008, he was awarded the Lithuanian State Prize for Science, and the Vilnius University Rector's award in 2010.
