          Professor Richard Greene is Dean of College of Geospatial Information Science and Technology. He is formerly from the Department of Geography at Northern Illinois University (NIU) where he served on the faculty from August 1990 to October 2014 and is currently Emeritus faculty with NIU.

讲座简介：

          In this study, a land use/land cover change analysis method was developed to examine patterns of land use/land cover conversions of cropland to urban uses and conversions of grassland to cropland uses in the United States (US) Midwest region.  In more current work an attempt is made to measure the same urbanization trend of cropland loss and grassland replacement in northern China.  The analysis is divided into three phases based on data availability and advancement in GIS techniques.  In phase 1 we relied on a survey-based dataset for the period 1982 to 1997.  In phase 2 we utilized a national land cover inventory based on remote sensing imagery for the 2001 to 2006 time period.  In phase 3 we take advantage of global land cover inventories derived from google earth engine technology and other advanced automation techniques.
